Celebrate 125 Years of History on Alumni Weekend

George School will celebrate its quasquicentennial year during Alumni Weekend, May 4–6, 2018. Previous Heads of School David Bourns and Nancy Starmer will join current Head of School Sam Houser for the weekend activities, and a big birthday celebration and carnival is planned for Saturday afternoon. All alumni, parents, and community members are welcome to attend.

The weekend-long event kicks off on Friday, May 4 with assembly in Walton Auditorium. The scheduled speaker is Kareem Afzal ’93, a pioneering leader in the hydrogen refueling market for vehicles. Other events planned for Friday include a campus walking tour, a performance by the George School Vocal Ensemble, and an evening program that includes tributes to retiring faculty members, an address by Sam Houser, and an all-alumni Welcome Reception.

On Saturday, May 5, the day starts with the Cross Country 5K Classic at 8:00 a.m. At 10:00 a.m. a Leadership and Vision Panel with David Bourns, Nancy Starmer, and Sam Houser will reflect on four decades at George School. The portrait of civil rights pioneer Julian Bond ’57 will be unveiled. Other Saturday events include a memorial meeting for worship, picnic and buffet lunches, reunion class photos, and alumni games.

The big celebration, a 125th birthday party, will begin at 2:00 p.m. on South Lawn. The carnival-style event will include food, carnival games, and a bounce house. Guests can also get a glimpse into school history at the memorabilia display.

Alumni Weekend 2018 concludes on Sunday, May 6 with meeting for worship and Sunday brunch.
