George School Day Camp: Meet Our Staff
Beau Byrtus, George School Day Camp director
William “Beau” Byrtus joined us at George School after fourteen years as the program supervisor for Old Bridge Township, NJ, which included the supervision of fourteen summer camps and fifteen sports camps. Beau has taught courses on recreation at the college level, has worked extensively with children and adults with autism, has earned New Jersey and national professional recognition in parks and recreation management, and was a competitive wrestler and wrestling coach for over a decade.
Jim Dalo, George School Day Camp director of Tennis
Jim Dalo has been with GSDC every summer since 2006. Jim is a United States Tennis Association (USTA) member, a certified instructor with Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), an international tennis instruction organization, and a member of the Delaware Valley Tennis Club. Jim became an instructor because he wanted to introduce the game to as many young people as possible and also assist those players to improve their game. Jim firmly believes that learning tennis also teaches important skills for life. In addition to his work with GSDC, Jim also conducts classes for players of all levels through the Bucks County Tennis Association.
Keith Pringle, George School Day Camp adventure activity leader
While attending college in 1983, Keith experienced his first ropes course. This is where he learned first-hand the benefits of experiential education. During the school year, besides being a Physical Education teacher at Pen Ryn School, he facilitates many high school and college group trainings at ropes courses in the Philadelphia region. He is an avid road and mountain biker, recently participating in a 450-mile bike tour of southwestern Colorado, and he has several decades of experience with rock climbing all over the United States. Keith is also experienced in white water rafting and kayaking.
Tom Reed, George School Day Camp upper camp division leader
Tom Reed is the division leader for our upper camp and the counselor in training/ junior counselor coordinator. A graduate of Gwynedd-Mercy College, Tom is an accounting teacher at Conwell-Egan High School. In addition to teaching, he is the boys’ lacrosse coach and is in the process of starting a youth lacrosse program.
Lauren Shanburg, George School Day Camp middle camp division leader
This is Lauren’s third summer with George School Day Camp. In the past she has filled many responsibilities, most notably was her role instructing tennis alongside Jim Dalo. A graduate of Lebanon Valley College, she holds a dual degree in Elementary and Special Education and is currently teaching kindergarten. Lauren loves working with children and watching them as they learn and grow.
Aubrey Sipowitz, George School Day Camp peewee/lower camp division leader
This is Aubrey’s sixth summer with George School Day Camp. A graduate of Bloomsburg University, she holds a dual degree in Elementary and Special Education. In addition she has two Master’s degrees. The first is in Education, Learning, and Technology, with the second Special Education. After teaching high school for three years she transitioned to her current role teaching kindergarten. From a very early age, Aubrey has known that her calling is to better the lives of children.
