The varsity girls’ field hockey team welcomed Bristol High School to Cougar Field on Friday, September 22, 2017 and came away with a victory on a very hot and humid afternoon.
During the first half, play went back and forth between the two schools, with both teams scoring one goal each. Forward Izzy Robinson-Cloete ’20 knocked in the first goal of the game around the ninth minute of the contest, with Bristol notching the tying goal with about six minutes left in the first half.
With the score 1-1 at halftime, the Cougars stepped up their game in the second half with a total of five additional goals. Tri-captain Julia Wilson ’18 scored four goals and Izzy scored her second of the game. Both Izzy and Julia assisted in a goal each as well.
“It was an amazing feat by the two of them, but the game was won by our team as a whole,” said Nancy Bernardini, head coach. “We played an excellent passing and possession game using a variety of passes in all directions to keep the ball away from our opponent.”
Nancy continued, “I have been in awe of this team for their love of the game, their hard work all season, and their continual growth as a group since day one. To watch players help each other out, encourage each other to do their best, and to play hard for each other is so rewarding!”
Next up for the team is Peddie School on Saturday, September 23 and Germantown Friends School on Tuesday, September 26.
