Cougars Defeat South Hunterdon

The George School varsity girls’ basketball team defeated South Hunterdon High School on Saturday, December 16 with a score of 38 to 24.

The team was aggressive and took the game directly to their opponent during the first quarter. Sophomore co-captain Alexandra Long ’20 paced the team offensively with steady play, and tallied seven points, eight assists, and six rebounds.

Freshman Kaliyah Myricks ’21 scored six of her eighteen points in the first quarter, while Nailah Campbell ’21 held strong with the rebounds. At the end of the first quarter, the Cougars were leading the Eagles with a score of 11 to 2.

The home team was on its heels during the second quarter while facing aggressive pressure by South Hunterdon, but regained control of the game by upping their defense during the third quarter. Jenny McArthur ’19, seeing her first real game time since her injury, also made her first basket of the season in the first quarter, and contributed a three-point play in the final quarter.

The Cougars worked hard this game, and limited South Hunterdon to single-digit scoring during three of four quarters, and overall ended the game with forty-four rebounds.

The team will host Cristo Rey High School on Tuesday, December 19 to finish out the pre-break season.
