Cougars Take the Win in Home Opener

The George School varsity football team won their home opener against Morrisville High School 20 to 16.

The varsity football team began the 2018 season with a 20 to 16 victory over Morrisville on Saturday, September 8 at George School.

The Cougars were down 16 to 6 in the second half, but continued to fight for a win. Angus Ruscher ’21, playing in his first football game, came up with a huge sack, followed by a twenty yard return punt by Bennett Lichstein ’20. Quarterback Kenneth Rodriguez ’19 threw to Justus Agosto ’21 who turned it into a first down. Miles Pinnock ’19 brought it down to the two-yard line and Kenneth later ran it in for the score.

In lieu of the extra point, the Cougars decided to go for two. The conversion was successful when Kenneth found Bennett in the back of the end zone.

When the defense took the field it was Nick Palladino ’19 who rushed the backfield and dropped the running back for a big loss. A sack by Will Rampe ’20 put a stop to the Bulldogs’ drive.

Kenneth orchestrated the drive that would end the game. He ran for two first downs. Miles and Angelo Leon ’21 each picked up additional yardage. Kenneth pounded the ball in for his second rushing touchdown and third overall.

The defense was on the field as the game clock ticked down. Will and Nick Harris ’19 each had one sack in the last few minutes of the game, giving Morrisville poor field placement. In the end, it was the Cougars on top.

The team will play at home again on Saturday, September 15 against Pennington at 2:30 p.m.
