AP Art History immerses students in visual art historical learning, comparative and contextual analysis, and an opportunity to delve into meaningful research. The course covers ten units that span Global Prehistory to Present. taught include: visual analysis, contextual analysis, comparison of artwork, artistic traditions, visual analysis of unknown work, attribution of unknown work, “visual” art historical interpretations and challenges, and argumentation. There will be field trips to art museums in Philadelphia, NYC, and Washington DC throughout the year. This course is recommended for students in their sophomore year who are interested in entering IB Visual Art. Students considering a study of Visual Art beyond George School would also benefit from this course.
Students are required to take the AP examination in May. A summer assignment is required in preparation for this course.
