Because most of Latin grammar is covered in the first two years, the emphasis in the third year of Latin is on reading unadapted literature which includes topics like Classical mythology and Roman history. Scansion of poetry as well as literary devices critical to the understanding of Latin poetry are presented. A methodical review of Latin grammar is included throughout the year. Emphasis is on developing translation skills and an appreciation of ancient literature.
