The Fred Beans Family of Dealerships presented George School with a major gift of $100,000 to help fund scholarships for eligible Pennsylvania students.

Fred Beans ’57 gp ’15 ’16 ’18 is the president and founder of The Fred Beans Family of Dealerships, one of the largest family-owned and operated automotive companies in the region.

The gift was awarded by Fred Beans Vice President Beth Beans Gilbert p ’15 ’16 ’18 to Head of School Sam Houser. Sam said, “The contribution from Fred Beans will help make a George School education accessible to families with limited financial means and will help fund the education of several students who would not be able to attend otherwise.”

This gift was made possible by a Pennsylvania program, which allows businesses to contribute to scholarship organizations like George School, in support of academic scholarships to earn Pennsylvania tax credit. The programs are the state’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs.

“The first Beans Scholars entered George School eight years ago,” said Sam. “That means they will be earning their undergraduate degrees this spring from some of the best colleges and universities in the nation. This is thanks to the start they received from this generous family and their family-owned company.”

Fred Beans said they have been a consistent supporter of education and other organizations for many years. “That’s why the Fred Beans Charitable Fund was created,” Fred said. “It provides support to initiatives and organizations of all sizes in the hopes of lending a helping hand to those who need it.”
