Geno McDermott ’04 Joins Entertainment One

Entertainment One has acquired Blackfin and founder and CEO, Geno McDermott ’04, will become president of US unscripted programming. “We are extremely impressed by the company and team Geno built so early into his career,” said Tara Long, president of global unscripted at Entertainment One, to The Hollywood Reporter. “We could not be more thrilled to have Blackfin on board.”

Geno founded Blackfin in 2014 and currently produces programming for Netflix, Discovery, National Geographic, History, Investigation Discovery, and AMC. The company’s best-known projects include Finding Escobar’s Millions, Legendary Catch, Missouri Mountain Family, and My Perfect World: The Aaron Hernandez Story.

“Blackfin’s rapid growth called for a strategic partner to provide infrastructure and take the company to new heights, eOne could not be a better fit,” said Geno. “I respect and admire Tara’s grit and tenacity and look forward to collaborating with her as we grow the business together.”

Geno was George School’s assembly speaker during Alumni Weekend 2019 where he spoke to students about how his time at George School helped to shape his passion for filmmaking.
