George School Names New Assistant Head of School for Student and Community Life

George School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mb Duckett Ireland as Assistant Head of School for Student and Community Life. Long committed to boarding school education, Mb brings a wealth of experience and perspective to George School, along with a student-first approach to this role.

As Dean of Students at Holderness School, Mb saw building strong connections and a sense of trust with students, parents, and faculty as a key component of their work, along with a focus on creating systems and practices to support a community “in which students can thrive as themselves and learn to address directly the challenges that arise in their social and academic lives,” they explained.

“Equity work is core to my professional approach,” said Mb. They were drawn to George School as an institution that is committed to the cultivation of an authentic life and to educating students about what it means to truly live in a caring community. In Mb’s view, this requires modeling integrity and empathy, along with a strong sense of compassion, and an ability to work “thoughtfully and always with a sense of humor and joy.”

A veteran of boarding school education, Mb spent eleven years at Choate Rosemary Hall prior to Holderness, serving as Form Dean, teaching in the English and Multidisciplinary Departments, advising in the dorm, coaching, chairing the Driving Equity at Choate committee, advising the Gender and Sexuality Alliance, and fulfilling the many responsibilities that come with working in a residential community. Mb holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University and a Master of Arts from Middlebury Bread Loaf School of English.

“We are thrilled that Mb will be joining our community,” said Head of School Sam Houser. “Their commitment to boarding school, focus on the development of the individual, and joyful approach to their work is extraordinarily well suited to the role of Assistant Head of School for Student and Community Life.”

George School will welcome Mb and their family to campus this summer, and Mb will officially begin their role beginning July 1.
