Michaela Drake ’18 placed sixth at the Marshall and Sterling (M&S) National League Finals on Friday, September 15, 2017. Since its inception in 1991 the M&S league has grown from ten member shows with a hundred riders to over 1,300 horse shows with more than 2,500 competitors across the country.
Equestrian Director Tiffany Taylor says, “We heard last week that Michaela had qualified. Qualifying in it of itself is a huge accomplishment. The class Michaela competed in is highly contested every year. She worked very hard all summer with our horse, Penny Lane, to achieve this goal.”
Michaela competed in both the 2’6” M&S Children’s Medal and the 2’6” M&S Hudson Medal competitions. Though she finished just out of the top twelve in the 2’6” Children’s Medal competition, she took the sixth place spot in the 2’6” M&S Hudson Medal competition—a first in George School’s history.
“This is the first time a George School student has competed at the Marshall and Sterling Finals,” said Tiffany. “We are very proud of Michaela. We had a great time and are looking forward to more students qualifying in the future.”
