Class of 2020 Commencement Highlights

On Sunday, May 24, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. George School celebrated the members of the Class of 2020 during the school’s one hundred and twenty-sixth commencement ceremony. Head of School Sam Houser welcomed the seniors and their friends and families.

“You have said in meetings for worship this week a magnificent thing—that we have a lot to be thankful for, and we should not take the good things in life for granted—friends, family, school, and more. Today, we are celebrating the people you have become, and the path you have taken to get there,” said Sam. “I have faith in you. You have lived up to my expectations and have made George School and me terribly proud. This is your day, and I wish you the best. You have my love and respect.”

During Silent Worship, artwork by Kelly Banfield ’20 and music by Sam Coscia ’20 was shared and the ceremony featured performances and speeches by several members of the Class of 2020.

Michael Clark ’20

Michael delivered the invocation.

“We stand here today triumphant for in the face of adversity. We have been fueled by our love and dedication and driven by a vision of something greater…

George School has taught us to mind our own light while seeking the light in our surroundings and in others.”

Katie Kendrick ’20

Katie shared For the Class of 2020, an original poem.

“We would have laid in the grass together
Held hands and let our cheeks turn pink in the sun I think…
So I will stand here and tell you now
That I love you all the same.
In fact today, I love you more.”

Vee Rachakarakij ’20

Vee performed She was Mine by AJ Rafael and Jesse Barrera.

“No matter where you go, I won’t be very far
Cause in my head I’ll be right there where you are.”

Emily Matson ’20

Emily shared a speech titled Reflection.

“We are all strong, and this is only temporary…
We are all ready to take on whatever the future holds…
We can all handle whatever challenges come our way.”

Jada Wooten ’20

Jada performed Original Choreography to accompany Conqueror a song by Estelle.

“I’m a conqueror
And I won’t accept defeat
Try telling me no”

“Think of me, think of me fondly
When we’ve said goodbye
Remember me, once in a while
Please promise me you’ll try”
