Family Visiting Day 2020

Parents and other family members are invited to attend our virtual Family Visiting Day on Saturday, October 17, 2020 to learn about their child’s academic program at George School. Faculty will review their course details and plans for the academic year via video and Head of School Sam Houser will share information about the state of the school via Teams Live. Families are also invited to attend a virtual gathering to meet and chat with other families at a virtual social event sponsored by the George School Parents Association on Friday, October 16.

One of the program highlights this year is the Zoom presentation by nationally recognized diversity consultant Rosetta Lee who will offer a workshop on Parenting with Identity in Mind at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17. Rosetta will discuss such topics as:

  • How do we learn about our various group identities like female, African American, Buddhist, homosexual, middle class, etc.?
  • Why do some people develop proud and healthy self identity and others experience own-group shame and hatred?
  • How can we, in age appropriate ways, instill positive self identity in our children and coach them to be positive influences on others’ identities?
  • How can we work together to co-create inclusive communities that work toward success for all?

Rosetta Lee recently spoke at assembly, focusing on implicit and unconscious bias in everyday life.

Virtual Conferences

Parents who have a particular concern about their child’s progress may schedule brief conferences with individual teachers. Online conference scheduling will open on Friday, October 9, 2020, at 8:30 a.m. EDT. Conference scheduling closes on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. EDT.  Advanced scheduling is required. All conferences will be held via Zoom; links will be provided on the Parent Portal.

We ask that parents be mindful of the large number of parents who need conferences. Please only schedule conferences with those teachers who are a high priority for you to meet with. If you are unable to get a conference time with a teacher, there will be a wait list and teachers will be made aware of your desire to meet. If conference slots are full, please contact Priscilla Wiggins by email to be put on the waiting list.  Please provide student name, teacher name and course name in your email.

Conference Scheduling

Advance scheduling is required for individual teacher conferences.
