Kate Lyden ’20

Feasterville, PennsylvaniaLehigh University
The reasons Kate likes her classes are as different as the classes themselves.

Is there a teacher who made a big impact on you?

Cheri Mellor is my tennis coach and advisor. She is one of my favorite people on campus because she always asks how I am doing and wants what is best for me.

What was your most interesting class?

There are several. For Intensive Biology, I had my favorite teacher, Pascal, who always made class interesting and cares about his students. I am grateful that I took Intensive Programming & Robotics because I learned so many programming skills, and it has led me to do an independent study in programming and robotics this year. In AP calculus, there was never a dull moment. I struggled, but my teacher, helped me so much. It was clear that he cared about his students, and he always strived to keep us entertained.

Describe a quintessential George School moment.

I love having fun on the bus with my tennis team, listening to music or simply talking to each other. While this may seem very simple, these small moments with my teammates often make my day and get us pumped up for the matches. This season, I have felt closer than ever with the girls on my team.

More about Kate:

In addition to tennis, Kate plays softball, is on the yearbook staff, is in STEM Club, and is an IB Diploma candidate. Her service trip to Vietnam “was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I became friends with the other students and the chaperones, experienced a culture that was so different than mine, and learned so much about the history of the country.”
