Seeking Support

There is no one reason why you meet with a school counselor, but some examples could include:

  • Stress management
  • Anxiety
  • Sadness or feelings of depression
  • Bullying and/or harassment
  • Homesickness
  • Relationship issues with friends, significant others, and/or family
  • Substance use support
  • LGBTQIA+ support

Providing Help

School counselors provide short-term, solution-focused counseling sessions, where students develop healthy coping mechanisms and create individual wellness goals.

If additional mental health support is recommended or requested, school counselors can refer students and families to community providers, such as therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists.
