Two George School Riders Qualify for IEA Regionals

The George School varsity equestrian team powered through the snow to take second place in the Jentri Stables Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Horse Show. Layla Afzal ’21 and Eva Coleman ’19 qualified as individuals in the Novice Fences class for IEA Regionals in March at the Sunday, December 10, 2017 event.

Hailie Meckling ’19 started the day off for the Cougars with a win in the Open Flat. Michaela Drake ’18 took second and Julia Wilson ’18 took fourth. Intermediate riders who placed in the Flat were Taylor Williamson ’21 in fifth and Olivia Hansbury ’21 at sixth. In Open Fences Hailie took third, Michaela placed fourth, and Julia sixth. In Intermediate Fences, Kailee Shollenberger ’18 and Taylor both placed fourth.

Novice Fence riders were first up in the afternoon session. Eva took fourth, and Mackenzie Sheehan ’19 took fifth. The last two to compete in Open Fences were Layla Afzal ’21 who took the win and Tommy Balboa Livis ’18 who took fifth. In Novice Flat placers were Layla with second, Tommy took fourth and Eva took sixth. In the Walk/Trot Leila Smith ’21 took home the win and Amanda Yang ’20 took fourth.

In the final section of the day, the Walk/Trot/Cantor, Marisa Kalafer ’20 took fourth, Leila took second and Amanda nabbed the win.
