Campus is buzzing. Students have returned to their dorms, faculty have completed their lesson plans and the athletic fields are filled with athletes once again. There is a unique sense of possibility that fills campus each September — a feeling of anticipation, connection and new beginnings. After a summer of enrichment and reflection, our faculty return inspired and eager to welcome back students, share new ideas and begin another year of learning together. For two faculty members, one is settling into a year with new responsibilities, while the other begins their teaching career here at GS.

Amedeo Salamoni 

Ceramics Teacher, Head of the Arts Department

After 17 years of “first days” in the ceramics studio, Amedeo’s Septembers have become routine. This fall, he starts the year with renewed energy towards his work as he assumes his new role as head of the arts department.

“September brings a lot to mind for me: Seeing the students again, getting back into a routine and, of course, creating together in the studio. There’s something special about the energy of a new school year, the familiar faces, new beginnings and that sense of possibility that comes with a fresh start.

“This year, I look forward to the conversations, the unexpected ideas and watching students discover something new about themselves through their work. After a summer away, it’s exciting to get back to the rhythm of the school and to be part of this community again. I am looking forward to another meaningful year at George School!”

Elena Morales Arias

Spanish Teacher, East Main Dorm Parent

Fresh from graduating with a master’s degree in Spanish pedagogy and literature from the University of Delaware, where she served as a teaching assistant in the Spanish department, Elena is looking forward to charting her own path in the classroom. 

“Especially this year, September brings new opportunities and excitement. I am excited to develop my own lesson plans for the first time and take advantage of all George School has to offer. In addition to meeting new friends and colleagues, I believe this community will push me to be my best. 

“I am excited for all of the opportunities to grow, not only professionally, but also personally. Coming from Spain, I am looking forward to doing things like getting my American driver’s license, cooking for the students in the dorm and immersing myself in the George School culture.”
