The varsity boys’ baseball team defeated Abington Friends School 4-2 on Saturday, May 11, 2019, to win the Friends Schools League Quaker Cup.

“Aidan Sheehan ’21 hit a two-run single in the seventh inning of a tie game to give George School baseball the lead, and eventual 4-2 win,” reported the Bucks County Courier Times.

Justus Agosto ’21 was the starting pitcher after co-captain Kenneth Rodriguez ’19 delivered a stellar performance in the semi-final game earlier this month against Friends Select School.

“The Cougars’ pitchers sealed the win with a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning, as Bennett Lichstein ’20 got the final out, in relief of sophomore starter Justus, who went six and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and striking out eight,” said the Bucks County Courier Times. Justus also added to the win by hitting a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

“Owen Kirk ’21, Kenneth, Justus, Aidan, and Bennett led the team with hits,” said George Long, co-head coach. “Defensively, Justus pitched well but Ryan Doyle ’19 made three plays at third base that made a huge difference in the outcome. The outfield made plays on balls hit to them. And on the infield, the defense was flawless; every player fielded the routine plays and made the outs.”

The young team, eight of whom will return next year, finished the season with seven wins and ten losses.
