Varsity Girls’ Basketball Defeats Princeton Day 44-12

In their first win of the season, the varsity girls’ basketball team defeated Princeton Day School 44-12 on Friday December 7, 2018. Alexis Semidey-Martinez ’21 had an aggressive start to the game and scored two three-pointers in the first quarter. Jennifer McArthur ’19 also scored in the first quarter allowing the Cougars to take a 13-0 lead.

“Alexis and Aqua Withers Carello ’21 netted ten points apiece as the Cougars clawed the Princeton Panthers for a decisive win,” reported the Bucks County Courier Times. “Lauren Hanna ’21 scored seven points and Kaliyah Myricks ’21 added five in the victory.”

“With several players moving in and out of the game, the Cougars’ younger players saw plenty of playing time,” said George Long, varsity coach. “Lauren Hanna ’21 dropped a two and a three while going two-for-two from the free throw line. Irion Thompson ’22 scored on a driving lay-up after a nice steal and Camille Mills ’20 played hard defense and made two steals and three great hustle plays.”

On Saturday, December 8, 2018, the Cougars also defeated Plumstead Christian School 41-28. Alexis led all scorers with twelve points and eight rebounds. Co-captain Alexandra Long ’20 dropped in two three-pointers and tallied eight points. Kaliyah, Lauren, and Jennifer contributed another seventeen points.

Camille scored her first basket of the season while grabbing two rebounds. Irion grabbed three rebounds and had one steal.

The Cougars travel to Philadelphia for their first league game on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. against Friends Select School.
