The varsity girls’ lacrosse team recently defeated local Friends Schools League (FSL) opponent Academy of the New Church (ANC) 14-5 on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Students Eva Kinnel ’20 and Alexandra Long ’20 were also mentioned in the Philadelphia Inquirer for their performance during the game.

“Eva Kinnel scored five goals in George School’s 14-5 victory over Academy of the New Church,” reported Mike Owens, staff writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer. “Alexandra Long added one goal and five assists.”

This match was the team’s fourth FSL opponent this season, and together they achieved a great team win.

“The best stat of the day was that every person on the team got at least one groundball or one caused turnover in the game,” said varsity head coach Nancy Bernardini. “That indicates we are all participating on defense and that we are transitioning quickly from offense to defense,” said Nancy.

Nine of the team’s goals yesterday were off of assists. Goals during the game were scored by Eva, Alex, Emily Matson ’20, Miranda Buczek ’19, Sara Matson ’20, Merrie Schorsch ’20, and Kate Klaver ’18.

The defense did a great job of collapsing on the ANC attack as well, forcing some bad shots. Susie Mott ’18 and Emma Schneider ’19 made strong saves throughout the game.

The varsity girls’ lacrosse team will travel to Friends’ Central on Friday, April 27, 2018 for a 4:00 p.m. game. Nancy hopes to see fans at the game cheering loudly and proudly.

Seniors will be honored after the game next Friday, May 4, 2018 against New Hope-Solebury High School.
