Varsity Riders Take Home Ribbons at IEA Show

Half of the riders from the George School varsity equestrian team competed at the Timber Edge Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Horse Show. The team took third overall and added four points to their team standings in the competition on Sunday, December 3, 2017.

Open and Intermediate riders started the day. Open Flat results were as follows: Julia Wilson ’18 took fourth, Michaela Drake ’18 took fifth and Hailie Meckling ’19 placed sixth. In the Intermediate Flat, Taylor Williamson ’21 took fifth and Olivia Hansbury ’21 took sixth. In Upper Level Fences Michaela and Julia both put in good rounds, with Michaela taking home the win and Julia taking fifth. Hailie put in a solid performance and finished second.

Intermediate Fences was the last section of the morning. Olivia finished fifth and Taylor sixth. In Novice Fences Layla Afzal ’21 finished fourth and Eva Coleman ’19 took second. Eva and Layla both placed third in their sections for Novice Flat.

Last to show was Leila Smith ’21. Leila had a great performance in the Walk/Trot class where she took home the win. Leila also placed fourth in her Walk/Trot/Canter.

The team’s next competition is at Jentri Stables on Sunday, December 10.
