Virtual Alumni Reunions and Events

Alumni Weekend 2020 was supposed to celebrate the classes ending in 0s and 5s, highlighted by the Class of 1970 celebrating their 50th reunion, from May 1-3 this past spring. However, reunion plans had to be put on hold due to the current pandemic. Despite these circumstances, classes found other creative ways to congregate that weekend virtually.

Reunion classes were offered the opportunity to meet over Zoom by George School’s Alumni Office and every reunion from 1950-2015 elected to gather online. Alumni joined from all over the world, including classmates from Peru (1960), Germany (1980), and Barcelona (2010).

Former classmates and friends were eager to catch up with one another and reminisce about their nostalgic times at George School, with the Class of 1985’s gathering lasting nearly four hours! The Class of 2015 also had forty-seven people attend their reunion on Zoom, which accounts for nearly half of their entire class.

Becky Paxton ’80 commented on this year’s virtual reunions saying, “Our Zoom reunion was an amazing experience. We had thirty-one classmates on, introducing and sharing.”

Classes that end in a 1 or 6, who will be celebrating a reunion in 2021, will have the opportunity to connect virtually on Zoom later this month. Class years ending in 0s, 5s, 1s, and 6s will be invited back to celebrate their milestone reunions together during Alumni Weekend 2021 next year.

“It is inspiring to see alumni continue to come together to support each other and the school through these virtual events,” said Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement Elizabeth Schwartz. “George School is a place that many have called home, and it continues to be one for community members both past and current, no matter where they are.”

The Alumni Office will hold more virtual programs for George School alumni to stay connected heading into the summer.
