On Thursday, January 30, 2020 one hundred and fifty students and teachers from twenty-three Friends high schools from the US and Canada will descend upon the George School campus to participate in the 2020 Quaker Youth Leadership Conference (QYLC). George School last hosted in 2010.

“What excites me the most about QYLC 2020 is the opportunity we’ll have together to forge a more powerful community of spirit-led activists and motivated catalysts of positive change in our community and beyond,” said student steering committee member Will Carson ’20.

QYLC spans three days and two nights and includes a trip to Philadelphia, where attendees will visit the Arch Street Meetinghouse, the National Constitution Center, Reading Terminal Market, and Friends Center. Other activities will focus on this year’s theme, Spirit-Led Activism: Embracing the Tension. “I feel as if I have, alongside other curious, creative, and determined Quaker youth, I have redeveloped sense of purpose,” said Claire Schmucker ’20. “I look forward to seeing how we embrace this energy and groundedness and share it with the rest of our respective communities.”

The QYLC 2020 George School Student Steering Committee includes Will and Claire, as well as, Susan Robinson-Cloete ’20, Izzy Robinson-Cloete ’20, Abby Byrtus ’20, Finn Pollard ’21, Greg Melchior-Fisher ’20,  Emaline Brangan ’21, Julia Carrigan ’20, and Joseph Hoopes ’20.
