Artist's Statement: Carter Sio '76
“My own values have become clearer as I have realized that the words I use to describe my aesthetic goals as a furniture maker and teacher- integrity, simplicity, and grace- also describe the person I seek to grow into through the practice of craftsmanship.”
On his role as a woodworking teacher, Carter told Woodworker’s Journal, “I love getting kids hooked on working with wood. “I love watching kids handle wood and work it. There is something really special about helping others feel the excitement and rewards of making a piece of furniture.”
In addition to teaching about and working with wood, Carter likes to hike, sail, work on his second home in rural coastal Maine, and spend time with friends and family.
