How We Are Being Exposed to an Invisible Killer

Georges Lieber Essay on Resistance

I’m proud to have contributed to this legacy of resistance in modern times, and I believe that my ancestors would nod in appreciation of my efforts. So it is with a smile on my face, determination in will, power in my step, and thoughts of Georges, great Aunt Thelma, great great Grandmom Clementine, and great Grandpop Louis in my heart, I will lean into the wind and plow ahead.

Making Politics Personal

Politics is indeed personal, and it is my hope that our students’ learning isn’t just relegated to complex terms and theories, but the idea that politics requires their participation and their passion.

The Value of Many Perspectives

Amedeo Salamoni brings at least four to six speakers into his classroom every year to expose students to a broad spectrum of voices in his field. For example, though he can offer students expertise in clay, he might bring a glassblower into his sculpture class to explore other mediums students may be interested in learning.

Religion or Religions?

Learning French and Service in Montrèal

On this trip, we’ve witnessed the hardships of survival, experienced the power of grit and perseverance, and learned to understand the absolute necessity for communication. To change the world, we must begin by understanding each other—and ultimately, learn to love all people for who they are.

Understanding That Other People Can Be Right

Modeling respectful dialogue in our IB HL History classroom with Fran Bradley about Fidel Castro’s Cuba has not only helped my students but has helped me to understand that other people can be right.

Grading for Equity (Part 2)

When we move to more accurate grading processes that describe a student’s level of academic performance, we break the feedback loop of taking resource disparities and perpetuating them by turning them into achievement disparities. We begin to foster intrinsic motivation in students as we allow space for failure.

Grading for Equity (Part 1)

When everything is worth points, then it’s never safe for students to make mistakes, even though we know that making mistakes is essential to learning. Instead of asking “Why did I lose points for this?” students now ask, “Can you help me understand why x concept works this way?

Diving and Learning in Bonaire

In Bonaire, it was really amazing to think about how everyone else is living their lives on land, while the fish and the corals are living separately in a different world underwater. The fish and other marine life that amaze us are just normal, daily life for everything that is living subaqueously.

In Costa Rica, I realized that what I had most enjoyed was getting to know members of the local community and seeing plants and wildlife I had never seen before. It hit me that travel isn’t just about relaxing and taking photos, it is about working to understand a world different than our own.

Theater at George School

One aspect of George School I love is the student theater performances that occur three times a year. Typically, the theater department puts on a play in the fall, a musical in the winter, and another play in the spring. One of our recent seasons focused on the theme of empowering women.
