IB Theory of Knowledge Exhibition 2022

The Class of 2022 exhibited their artifacts in a TOK virtual reality gallery, where exhibition patrons are immersed in a 3D gallery space. They are free to interact with all the artifacts in the collection, entirely from the comfort of their computers, phones, or VR headsets.

Joining a New Family on the Athletic Fields

While incredibly physically challenging, the preseason program was one of the most amazing experiences I have had with sports, and convinced me, once again, that George School is where I belonged. The team became my new family and made my transition into a new school practically seamless.

Grading for Equity (Part 1)

When everything is worth points, then it’s never safe for students to make mistakes, even though we know that making mistakes is essential to learning. Instead of asking “Why did I lose points for this?” students now ask, “Can you help me understand why x concept works this way?

Woodworking: Learning to Solve Problems

Woodworking has helped me have an outlet that I am able to turn to when I am feeling stressed. I would have never known that this really is something that I enjoy until I took the class and figured out that I want to have this art be a part of me for the rest of my life.

The IB Program Challenges Dancers

Throughout my time in the program, we have learned about different dance cultures as well as notable choreographers and dancers. This has allowed me to appreciate dance as a whole, not just the physical aspects, and see the beauty of the art.

Digital Notebooks in the Arts Studio

Using digital notebooks has become an absolute necessity for my painting and drawing classes. Their use has allowed for better documentation, reflection, communication, and development. The possibilities are endless and I am constantly looking for ways to improve the delivery of my course content.

Lessons Learned in Arts at George School

My experience with art at George School is amazing. George School has so many options for me to try and explore what I like. If I am not into performing arts, I can find something I like in one of the visual arts.

Digital Notebooks Make Homework Interactive

I’ve found Digital Notebooks valuable because they make homework more interactive. I can embed a video in a slide, ask students to move items in a slide (drag and drop), fill in the blanks, audio exercises, writing, etc. The possibilities are endless with Google slides.

Making Politics Personal

Politics is indeed personal, and it is my hope that our students’ learning isn’t just relegated to complex terms and theories, but the idea that politics requires their participation and their passion.

The Value of Many Perspectives

Amedeo Salamoni brings at least four to six speakers into his classroom every year to expose students to a broad spectrum of voices in his field. For example, though he can offer students expertise in clay, he might bring a glassblower into his sculpture class to explore other mediums students may be interested in learning.

Studying Sustainability in Costa Rica

In Costa Rica, I realized that what I had most enjoyed was getting to know members of the local community and seeing plants and wildlife I had never seen before. It hit me that travel isn’t just about relaxing and taking photos, it is about working to understand a world different than our own.

Providing our students with the confidence and skills to approach challenging work without an overwhelming fear of failure, and the mindset to see the failures they will have as opportunities to learn something is far more important and transferable than any set of facts we could teach them.

Diving and Learning in Bonaire

In Bonaire, it was really amazing to think about how everyone else is living their lives on land, while the fish and the corals are living separately in a different world underwater. The fish and other marine life that amaze us are just normal, daily life for everything that is living subaqueously.

Developing Leadership Skills on the Fields and Courts

George School gives everyone the opportunity to experience and try anything they want, and to be a fully well-rounded student and an athlete. As a freshman, I discovered the balance between my leadership skills through my actions on the field or the court with lessons learned from watching the seniors and more experienced players on the team.

Head of School Search Update

Dear Friends,

We are pleased to share with you that the Search Committee has selected RG175 Search Consultants as a partner in the recruitment and hiring of George School’s tenth head of school. Led by the team of John Green, Catherine Hunter and Marcia Prewitt Spiller, RG175 is committed to understanding the unique mission of George School and identifying outstanding school leaders for our consideration.

In the coming weeks, RG175 will engage members of our community from all constituencies (faculty, staff, alumni, families and students) to gain a comprehensive understanding of our mission and values, our institutional priorities, and our school culture. The team will visit George School on Tuesday, May 23 so that they can experience campus in full swing before the school year ends. This visit will be the first in a series of conversations that the consultants will have with members of our community over the next few months.

Together with the Search Committee, they will develop an opportunity statement and will begin a comprehensive recruitment process through a broad network both within and outside of independent schools. The initial review and screening of candidates is a confidential process requiring considerable discretion. Once finalists are selected, constituents will once again be invited into the process to meet the candidates and provide feedback to the Search Committee.

We hope to invite finalists to campus once the school year is underway and make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees regarding the next Head of School by late fall.

Please refer to the Head of School Search page for comprehensive and current information about the search process. We will continue to keep you informed and aware of opportunities to engage in this work.

In friendship,

John Gibb, Clerk of Search Committee
Rebecca Boucher p’09 ’17, Assistant Clerk of Search Committee

Student Volunteers Needed for CAS!

Dear George School Students,

Do you remember the moment you said “yes” to GS?! For so many, attending the Celebration for Accepted Students (CAS) IS that moment. Every year, the Admission Office works to create an exciting, special, fun-filled experience for our newly accepted students… and we need YOUR help to make the 2023 CAS our best event yet!

This year, there will be two CAS days: March 30 and April 4.

Families will come to campus and attend programming throughout the morning and afternoon to get a sense of what George School is all about. We will need high-energy, dynamic, positive student volunteers to help families navigate campus; answer questions about life at GS; run icebreakers and other games; and so much more. If you are interested in being a Student Volunteer, please fill out this form at your earliest convenience.

Thank you!
The Admission Team

Call for Parent Volunteers!

Attention Parents/Guardians: The Admission Team is looking for parent volunteers to help out with Celebration for Accepted Students (CAS) on March 30 and April 4.

If you are interested in being a volunteer, please contact Admission Visit and Outreach Coordinator Deb Soufleris at dsoufleris@georgeschool.org.

Attendance Policy

Day Student Attendance Policy. If your child is ill, has a doctor’s appointment (doctor’s note required), late to class, or will miss a class or classes for any reason, parents/guardians must email Attendance Supervisor Laurie Moyer, or call 215.579.6593 , to notify her of the excused absence the day before or by 9:00 a.m. the morning of the absence. Your child must also check-in and out with Laurie in the Deans’ Office if they arrive late or leave early for the academic day.

Boarding Student Doctor Appointment Policy. Parents/guardians should let the Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC) know 24 hours in advance if their boarding student is leaving campus for a medical appointment with them. Students are required to sign out and back in through the SHWC. If the student has an off-campus appointment that requires the use of GS transportation, parents/guardians must give the SHWC 48 hours notice to secure transport. Contact Administrator of the SHWC Indira Rodrigo with questions.
