George School won the Friends Schools League Quaker Cup with a 2-1 victory over Abington Friends School on Friday, October 25, 2019.
Nils Gungor ’20 opened the scoring at the 12:20 mark in the opening half, assisted by Ryan Mitchell ’22. The Cougar’s 1-0 lead stood until half time.
During the second half the Kangaroos threatened with several long throw-ins inside the George School box. The Cougars stood strong however, with excellent play by Javi Vidal ’20 and Basem Baadarani-Feeney ’22 in central defense. Goalkeeper Christian Fusco ’20 made six saves on seven shots for George School.
Andrew Miller ’22 scored the game-winning goal in the thirty-ninth minute of the second half on an assist by Chaitanya Jaikaria ’22. Although AFS continued to fight and scored during injury time, the Cougars held on for the win.
