Dance Eclectic: Dancing into the Future with Gratitude and Hope

The theme for this year’s Dance Eclectic performance is gratitude and hope; a very fitting premise after a year of life in a global pandemic. “It’s been a challenging year,” said Dance Faculty Barb Kibler. “But our dance students created and learned choreography as distance learners, day students, boarders and a variety of variations in between.”

Distance learners filmed and submitted their performances, while on-campus learners were filmed individually. Dance Faculty Gracie Coscia-Collins ’09 edited the performances together.

The performance will include some special elements including a solo routine from Ria Paladugu ’23 which she performs digitally, and two live performances: one choregraphed by Bella Storie ’21 and a segment from George School’s newest dance students.

This year, dancers also worked with Shantel Hubert’s English classes who provided excerpts from stories they were studying. Barb and Gracie used an exercise called, The Directors Score, where certain phrases and words were selected for dancers to use as prompts to create choreography.

Dance Eclectic will take place April 16 and 17, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. and will be livestreamed from Walton Auditorium. A talk back session will take place after each performance. Each performance will be Livestreamed here.
