Ransacker is the most ambitious novel yet from author Emmy Laybourne ’89. The story follows the coming-of-age of Sissel Hemstad, a young Norwegian immigrant living in 1886 Montana with ancient Viking magic running in her blood. It is a companion novel to her previous novel, Berserker.
“While it was challenging, I found it very satisfying to write historical fantasy,” said Emmy. “I’ve always been fascinated with stories of the pioneer and homesteading times.”
Emmy is a writer of young adult fiction who has penned books such as Sweet, Sky on Fire, and the well-known Monument 14 series. She also starred opposite Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon in the feature film Superstar.
Emmy is also a devoted member of the George School community. In 2015, she was a speaker at TedXGeorgeSchool, and discussed what it was like to grow up as the daughter of the founder of Nickelodeon, and the foundation it gave her to view media through a creative lens. Last year, she donated signed copies of her books to Embrace the World a dinner, dance, and auction that celebrated the school’s 125th anniversary.
