Eric Wolarsky

English DepartmentAssociate Dean of Students
Eric was looking for an authentic community... and he found one.

Why did you choose to teach at George School?

I was looking for a school with a culture and sense of community that matched my own. George School has fulfilled that need well.

Is there a moment in a class that stands out?

Our Theory of Knowledge unit on GMO foods was a highlight. We Skyped with two experts in the field (one an older sibling of a student in the class, another a former George School student of mine), and that made the experience feel very authentic.

Describe your teaching style.

I’m a therapist-style, Grant Wiggins and Alfie Kohn disciple. I am anti grading and pro creativity.

What would you tell prospective families about George School?

We are a legit Friends school in terms of diversity and consensus-based decision-making. We walk the walk.

What gets you excited about coming back to campus each fall?

I’m always excited to try new technology and tweak my teaching methods to account for this constant evolution. As a dean, I just want to meet all the new students and learn about them.
