Varsity Boys’ Swimming Defeats Hun

The George School varsity boys swimming team defeated The Hun School of Princeton 88-76 on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. The Cougarfish took charge of the meet with the 200 medley relay team of Sam Mottershead ’22, Francisco Correia ’20, Zach Bohrer ’21, and Manny Vinhais ’21 taking first place.

Chris Wittmer ’23 made his debut with a win in the 200 freestyle, finishing at 1:58.47. He took second in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:11.39.

Francisco, Sam, and Darin Stockhammer ’22 went first, second, and fourth respectively in the 200 individual medley, a race in competitive swimming in which swimmers compete in all four strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle) in one race.

The team swept the 100 butterfly—Zach ’21 taking first, Howard Chan ’21 taking second, and Gavyn Leidich ’23 taking third. Manny brought home two second place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Francisco won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:27.15.

The Cougarfish had a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with the team of Chris, Gavyn, Joseph Hoopes ’20, and Robin Bouchet ’20. They also had a first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with the team of Francisco, Manny, Zach, and Chris.

Sam, Zach, and Alex Rawlings ’22 went second, third and fourth respectively in the 100 backstroke. Chris, Howard, and Darin took second, third and fifth respectively in the 100 breaststroke.

Although the George School varsity girl’s swimming team lost 89-78 to Hun, Sara Matson ’20 won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.53. Sara later took first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.91.

Skylar Karpf ’21 won the 50 freestyle in a time of 26.66 and then brought home a second place in the 100 backstroke with a 1:09.35.

Anna Schenk ’22 made her varsity swimming debut in the 200 individual medley where she took second with a time of 2:26.01 and followed with another second place finish in the 100 butterfly putting up a 1:06.72.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Anna, Kylie Perry ’23, Skylar, and Sara took home first place. The Cougarfish also took third in the event with the team of Maisy Cadwallader ’20, Kate Levesque ’20, Caroline Eagen ’21, and Lana Karpf ’23.

Both teams are at home against Moorestown Friends School on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.
