Two Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

Will Carson ’20 and Praveen Rodrigo ’20 have been named National Merit Semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

George School is thrilled to announce that Will Carson ’20 and Praveen Rodrigo ’20 have been named National Merit Semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Will and Praveen are two of the 16,000 Semifinalists throughout the country. They each qualify for one of the 7,600 available National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.

More than 1.5 million high school juniors entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship program by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT.) The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of high school seniors in the United States and includes the highest scorers from each state.

To become a Finalist, Will and Praveen, along with their college counselor, must complete a detailed application, provide their academic record, document their participation in school and community activities, demonstrate leadership abilities, job history, and any honors or awards received. About 15,000 of the 16,000 Semifinalists are expected to advance to the Finalist level, which will be announced in February. National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in April.
