A New School Year Kicks Off

George School students and families had the option to begin the 2020-21 school year either on campus or fully distance learning.

The 2020-2021 school year began on Monday, August 31, 2020, but for the first time in George School’s history, students met their teachers and classmates through a computer screen, not in the classroom, for the start of school. Classes will be held online for the fall semester, with students participating from their dorm rooms, approved locations on campus, or from home.

“George School is reinventing itself for this new year,” said Head of School Sam Houser in a video message to families. “It will be an adventure and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you.”

While the school year is certainly different in many ways, one thing that has not changed is the quality and diversity of George School’s newest students. The Class of 2024 is comprised of one hundred and eleven students representing ten states and eighteen countries. Among them, there is a top 100 US-ranked table tennis player, a National Spelling Bee participant, two junior Olympians, a business owner, and a chili war winner. One student taught their donkey to paint; another is a Harry Potter invisibility cloak designer. These students help to make up George School’s current student body of 524. In total, George School students represent forty-two countries and thirteen states.

Whether students are learning on-campus, across town, or thousands of miles away, one thing is for sure this year #GeorgeSchoolIsWhereYouAre.
