A New Twist on Writing

English teacher Chris King imagines a new course in nonfiction writing for students as part of the George School Signature Academic Program scheduled to start in the 2022-2023 school year. Titled “Let Your Life Speak” and based on the essential George School mission, the class will explore short-term nonfiction and learn how brevity can strengthen the power of prose.

In addition to writing brevity essays, inspired by readings and prompts, the class will include a five- to ten-minute performance of their essay. “This class will give students the chance to read and write in a completely new way,” said Chris. He also plans to have students write a traditional essay, or expand their writing into a film documentary, TedTalk, or any alternative they see fit.
