Since the start of the pandemic, George School’s Environmental Services Department has overcome challenges such as product shortages and increased cleaning and sanitizing protocols. As the department’s leader, Mike Jowder, has been at the forefront of many of these new precautions keeping our community safe—and most of us have never even met him.

George School Faculty and Alum Featured in Traveling Art Exhibit

George School’s ceramics teacher, Amedeo Salamoni, and alumna Claire Schmucker ’20 contributed to works exhibited as part of the Clay Arts Vegas Collaborative International Exhibition, a travelling exhibit currently on display at the University of North Dakota en route to Auckland, New Zealand.

George School Helps Sisters Reunite Amidst Pandemic

2020 was a difficult year for many, especially for those separated from loved ones. Nadira Talayee ’22 and her two sisters are from Afghanistan and are all studying in different parts of the United States. George School, along with the Dublin School in New Hampshire, made efforts to reconnect the sisters last summer while neither of them could travel home due to pandemic restrictions.

English faculty, Shantel Hubert, is presenting, The Intersection Between the Veiled and the Masked: A Tribute to Langston Hughes, a virtual program held on February 21 through the Michener Museum in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

Junior Night with College Counseling

George School’s College Counseling team has been working tirelessly to make sure students continue to get the guidance they need amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Recently, the department hosted Junior Night with College Counseling, a virtual event for juniors and their families to discuss navigating the application process throughout the pandemic. 

Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

George School is elated to announce that Shiyong (David) Xi ’21 and Ellen Zhang ’21 were named semifinalists this fall in the Sixty-Sixth National Merit Scholarship Program. Seven other seniors—Ryan Bencivengo ’21, Ziyou (Milano) Hu ’21, Siyuan (Justin) Liu ’21, Aniketh Phalcomepely ’21, Jackson Swartz ’21, Ilinca Vilceanu ’21, and Sean Whalen ’21— received National Merit Letters of Commendation. Chris Toala ’21 was selected as a National Recognition Program: Hispanic Scholar.
