George School Welcomes Athletic Coordinator Tonia Maschi

George School is pleased to welcome Tonia Maschi to the athletic department. Tonia has joined the team as an Athletic Coordinator and will assist head coach Alyssa Batty with Girls Lacrosse this spring.

“I am thrilled to be able to hire Tonia,” said Director of Athletics Kurt Ruch. “She comes to GS with a long resume of coaching, athletic training, physical education, and athletic administration.  She will be able to help our community and department in many ways.”

Tonia attended Springfield College in Massachusetts, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1994. Tonia brings a wealth of experience to her new position.  After college, Tonia started her career as an Assistant Certified Athletic Trainer at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY.  From there, she moved on to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. She then became a Teacher of Health and Physical Education and a Certified Athletic Trainer at the Riverdale Country School in the Bronx, NY.

Most recently, Tonia has served as the Director of Athletics and Physical Education at Buckingham Friends School for the past six years. “I am committed to the independent school environment, and to guiding and supporting students during a time of profound physical, social, and emotional growth while honoring the school’s mission,” shared Tonia. “Athletics have been a part of my life since childhood, and I am excited to be back in the high school setting again.”

In her new role at George School, Tonia supports the Athletics Department in the development and management of George School Athletics. Her primary responsibilities center on the day-to-day operations of the department through communications, scheduling, and organization of athletic activities.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity to be a part of the athletics department and contribute my skill set to the community,” said Tonia. “I enjoy collaborating with administrators, faculty members, parents, and coaches to help make the George School athletic program the very best it can be.”

Tonia and her husband, Rob, have two children (Sam 17, and Kate 12).
