The varsity girls’ softball season came to an end on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 with a 6-5 loss to Friends Select School in the Friends Schools League (FSL) semi-final game. The Cougars finished the year with a 12-4 season record.

“Although the ending wasn’t what they’d hoped for, the season was another successful one,” reported Mary Jane Souder of The Intelligencer. “Several players led the charge.”

Annie Borovskiy ’20 hit at a .566 clip. “Annie is a good motivator, a good energy source, always upbeat, and plays hard,” said Terry Scullion, head coach.

Caitlyn Mihalik ’20, Lexi Alloway ’21, and Mackenzie Sheehan ’19 also had a strong game.

“Caitlyn, who threw a five-inning perfect game against Academy of the New Church this season, has been a mainstay in the circle,” said Mary Jane. “The junior pitcher also batted .479, led the team in RBIs, and had the highest slugging percentage.”

In the seventh inning, Lexi hit a two-run triple, pulling George School within one point of Friends Select for a close finish.

“Caitlyn and Lexi have been a phenomenal duo as our number four and five hitters all year,” said Terry. “Lexi has that leadership ability. She’s played through a lot of injuries and catches every inning back there.”

Mackenzie, the team’s shortstop and only four-year starter, batted .547 this season. “She’s another phenomenal athlete,” Terry said.
