Social Innovators Program Accepting Applications for Fall

In fall of 2020, two dozen George School students took part in the Social Innovators Program (SIP) through the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Schoolyard Ventures. The program provides university-level, real-world opportunities for students interested in merging an interest in entrepreneurship with the desire to make a positive impact on society.

Students Recognized at both Greenfield and Bridge Film Festivals

George School students received recognition during the month of April at both The Greenfield and Bridge Film Festivals. “We are so excited by the level of honor our students received for their creative works despite this challenging year,” said faculty member Scott Seraydarian ‘90. “Most importantly, we are thrilled about how these films reflect our students’ letting their lives speak.”

George School Children’s Center Achieves Four Star Status

The George School Children’s Center (GSCC) is excited to announce that they have achieved a STAR 4 rating with Keystone STARS (Standards, Training/Professional Development, Assistance, Resources and Support), Pennsylvania’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS).

Shelby Williams ’21 Honored with the Princeton Prize in Race Relations

Shelby Williams ’21 is the recipient of the Certificate of Accomplishment from The Philadelphia Committee of the Princeton Prize in Race Relations. The certificate recognizes the important work she has done to advance racial equity and foster positive race relations within the George School community.  

Community Says Goodbye to Marion the Librarian

George School has had the honor of having a knowledgeable and skilled research librarian centered in the academic life of the school since 2014. Throughout her years of service, Marion helped maintain a collection of resources that serve the changing needs of George School’s academic program, while also overseeing and participating in all aspects of the school archives.

Alumni Award Recipient Jaki Shelton Green ’71

Jaki Shelton Green ‘7 1 has taken on many professional roles throughout her career, including working as a paralegal, holding positions in the non-profit sector, and in 2018, she was appointed the first African American and third woman Poet Laureate in North Carolina.

A Fond Farewell to Debbie DiMicco ’72

This spring, the George School community will say goodbye to longtime teacher, coach, and Friend, Debbie DiMicco ’72, as she retires from George School. Prior to rejoining the George School community in 1979 to teach French, Debbie taught in France after graduating from Swarthmore College.

Community Message from Sam Houser

Head of School Sam Houser shared this message with the community on April 20, 2021. I know that the news of the day is weighing heavily on many of our hearts and minds. The trial of Derek Chauvin, the police officer charged with killing George Floyd, has gone to the jury, and this is momentous in and of itself.

Lila Anton ’01 Awarded George School Young Alumni Award

Every spring at Reunions, George School recognizes alumni who have excelled in their chosen profession or have done extraordinary things through volunteer and philanthropic endeavors. This year, the selection committee has chosen Lila Anton ’01 to receive the George School Young Alumni Award for many reasons, among them her impressive work with Netflix Japan.
