Pippa Porter Rex and Rachel Agosto Return to George School in New Roles

Pippa Porter Rex and Rachel Agosto will return to George school in new roles for the upcoming academic year. Pippa returns from her sabbatical this summer as the dean of students, taking over from Erin Sio. Rachel Agosto returns to George School as director of diversity, equity, and inclusion, building upon the work of Marcus Ingram.

Alumni Provide Fuel to Fight for Bucks County Healthcare Workers

Two George School graduates are half of the organizing team behind Fuel the Fight Bucks County, which is raising funds to purchase meals from local restaurants and provide them to workers in area hospitals. Danielle Tuller ’11, an MBA student who returned to Newtown from studying at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, and Mike Mirande ’11, a doctor of pharmacy student at Jefferson School of Pharmacy were inspired to support those hard hit by the COVID-19 crisis.

Lael Brainard ’79 Helps Lead Main Street Lending

The Federal Reserve’s new Main Street Lending Program is being shepherded by economist Lael Brainard ’79, a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. The program is designed to provide up to $600 billion in loans to small- and mid-size companies hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rhianna Searle ’23 Runner-Up for Bucks County Poet of the Year

Rhianna Searle ’23 was named first runner-up in the Bucks County High School Poet of the Year contest. Rhianna was the only freshman among the finalists, the rest of whom were all high school seniors. This time-honored contest reaches back thirty-two years. To apply, contestants submitted exactly three original poems, limited neither by form nor style.

The Virtual Classroom: Latin

Sharada Shreve-Price deftly meshed an ancient language with modern technology in her virtual Latin 2 classroom. While Latin falls under George School’s Language Department, it is the only language taught at George School that is not a spoken one. As a result, Latin teachers like Sharada had to become even more resourceful in making the change to the virtual classroom.

George Schools Hosts Virtual Alumni Concerts for the Community

The George School Alumni Office hosted two virtual concerts for the George School community this spring. During this time of social isolation, these performances offered a way for our community to come together to celebrate the accomplishments of two of the school’s talented alumni, Matt Check ’00 and Holdyn Barder ’17.

Virtual Alumni Reunions and Events

Alumni Weekend 2020 was supposed to celebrate the classes ending in 0s and 5s, highlighted by the Class of 1970 celebrating their 50th reunion, from May 1-3 this past spring. However, reunion plans had to be put on hold due to the current pandemic. Despite these circumstances, classes found other creative ways to congregate that weekend virtually.
