Planning in a Pandemic: Student Life

Planning activities that keep teenagers safe and engaged is a difficult job at any time, but during a pandemic it is even more challenging. We recently sat down with Director of Student Activities, Shari Rossmann, for a “virtual” face to face conversation to find out what George School boarding students have been doing this fall and what to look forward to throughout the year.

George School Math Team Continues Winning Streak

The George School Math Team is off to a great start at the beginning of the 2020-2021 math competition season. The team beat Malvern Prep in a local competition 35-15. And 35 was the maximum score possible during that meet. Earlier the team played in the opening round of the national Math Madness competition and beat a Missouri school 38 (out of 40) to 20. This past week, the team defeated a Californian school 39 to 20.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Series Hosted for Students

This fall the student inclusion committee and the faculty/staff inclusion committee are hosting a virtual Zoom series called “Can’t We Just Talk?” The events start on Wednesday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. and run early November. They cover an array of topics while maintaining a focus on communication.

George School Mourns the Passing of Anne LeDuc

Anne LeDuc was a force of nature. She influenced the lives of many George School students during her decades of coaching basketball, swimming, lacrosse, and field hockey at George School. She passed away on October 3, 2020.

Rachel Carey-Harper ’69 Adds to Discussion on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Rachel Carey-Harper ’69 is working towards ending racial injustice and credits, in part, George School for helping form the values that led her to work in social justice. “My first major focus was on violence against women, founding the Clothesline Project in 1990,” she wrote. “About eight years later I switched to working on racial justice.” 

George School Welcomes Families for Visiting Day 2020

George School is pleased to welcome parents and families to attend our virtual Family Visiting Day on Saturday, October 17, 2020. Parents and families will have the opportunity to learn about their child’s classes, meet with teachers during conferences, and join Head of School Sam Houser as he delivers his annual address.

College Counseling Goes Digital

George School’s College Counseling Office will continue offering students personalized counseling appointments and visits online throughout the fall semester. Students can sign up for an online appointment with their college counselor using the link in their counselor’s email signature.
